    About this album

Alone is a superb solo piano showcase that distils Bill Evans’s post-bop language into intimate, finely shaded improvisation. Recorded in 1968 and issued in 1970, it finds Evans working without a rhythm section, turning standards such as “Here’s That Rainy Day” and “A Time For Love” into quiet studies in harmony, touch and phrase shape. The album highlights the lyricism, harmonic sophistication and emotional restraint that made Evans one of jazz’s most influential pianists. As a solo recording, it also underlines how fully he could sustain narrative, tension and colour entirely on his own.
