Songs About Fucking is Big Black at their most extreme and exacting, sharpening the band’s harsh post-punk sound into a punishing blast of noise rock. Led by Steve Albini, the group turned drum machine pulses, serrated guitars and blackly comic lyrics into something both confrontational and tightly controlled. Released in 1987, the album followed Atomizer and pushed Big Black further from indie convention towards a colder, more mechanical attack. Its abrasive power and refusal to soften its edges helped define noise rock and left a lasting mark on underground guitar music.
