    This Is Big Audio Dynamite announced Mick Jones’s post-Clash project as something genuinely new: a sharp blend of post-punk energy, samples, dub breaks and electro-pop instinct. Released in 1985, the debut brought together rock, dance and cut-and-paste studio techniques at a moment when those worlds rarely met so directly. Built with the group’s DIY, media-saturated humour and hooks, it helped define Big Audio Dynamite’s identity and pointed towards the sample-led alternative music that would become far more common later in the decade. Songs such as Medicine Show and E=MC² showed how nimble and inventive the formula could be.
