About this album
Big Audio Dynamite’s No. 10, Upping St. is a sharp, inventive crossover album that pushed post-punk into dance-floor and sample-led territory. Released in 1986, it followed the group’s breakthrough debut and reflected the restless ideas of Mick Jones after The Clash, blending rock, electro, hip-hop and dub into a restless urban sound. The album’s clipped beats, found-sound flourishes and melodic hooks gave songs like C'mon Every Beatbox and Beyond The Pale a forward-looking edge. One of the defining records of the band’s early run, it helped make genre-crossing feel immediate rather than gimmicky.
