About this album
Different Light is the Bangles’ breakthrough pop-rock album, balancing polished radio appeal with the group’s trademark harmonies and sharper songwriting. Issued in 1986, it turned the Los Angeles band from cult favourite into mainstream stars, driven by standout singles including Manic Monday, Walk Like an Egyptian and Walking Down Your Street. The album also features a version of Big Star’s September Gurls, underlining the Bangles’ knack for filtering power-pop and jangle influences into something bright and immediate. Its success helped define mid-1980s pop rock and secured the band’s place in the era’s crossover charts.
