About this album
Amazing Grace is one of Aretha Franklin’s most powerful and celebrated albums, capturing her in a live gospel setting at the height of her vocal powers. Recorded in 1972 with Rev. James Cleveland and the Southern California Community Choir, it finds Franklin returning to the church roots that shaped her artistry, transforming hymns and spirituals into urgent, deeply felt performances. The album’s blend of devotional intensity, call-and-response energy and emotional authority helped make it a landmark in both gospel and soul, and its title performance became one of her most enduring recordings.
