  • We Are… The League, the 1982 debut album by Anti-Nowhere League, is a ferocious and unapologetic statement of raw punk defiance. With snarling vocals, pounding rhythms, and scathing lyrics, the band delivered a record that shocked, thrilled, and amused in equal measure. Tracks like “I Hate… People” and “Let’s Break the Law” blend aggression with anthemic hooks, while their irreverent take on “Streets of London” adds a sardonic twist to a classic. This is punk at its most unfiltered—a sonic middle finger to authority, hypocrisy, and musical convention.

Four decades on, We Are… The League still burns with the same volatile energy. Its over-the-top attitude and gleeful offensiveness have made it both a cult favorite and a lightning rod for controversy. But beyond the shock value lies a band with undeniable presence and punk chops to match. For fans of hard-edged, take-no-prisoners punk rock, this album remains a definitive listen—one that captures the anarchic spirit of the UK82 scene in all its unruly glory.

    Reviews

"The most vicious, mean-spirited, gratuitously violent punk band to come down the pike in a long time… this is the best hard-core punk record England has yielded since the Sex Pistols era." – The Philadelphia Inquirer

"It’s so far over the top it’s in orbit, uttering the unutterable at every opportunity, yelling a defiant ‘eff off’ at everybody and everything." – Melody Maker

"This just ain’t the sort of music to lend itself to sensitive in-depth philosophical probings… the only way the album can be appreciated is to knock back half a litre of Jacks, head-butt the budgie and crank up the volume." – Sounds
