Quebec duo Angine de Poitrine have quickly built a reputation for their wildly distinctive take on psychedelic math rock, blending driving rhythms, microtonal guitars and a surreal sense of scale into something both hypnotic and strange. Their KEXP session helped push them to a much wider audience, while sold-out shows, festival appearances and fast-rising demand have confirmed them as one of the more unusual breakout acts in recent rock.
On II, the Poitrine brothers push their sound further with a record that feels tighter, more direct and more energetic, while still full of odd turns and unexpected detail. Beneath the force of the grooves and the layered guitar work, there is also a dry sense of humour running through the album, revealing itself more with each listen.
