Blue Velvet is Angelo Badalamenti’s defining soundtrack work, turning David Lynch’s neo-noir into a haunting blend of romance, menace and damaged innocence. Released in 1986, the score helps shape the film’s dream logic through smoky jazz colours, slow-burning themes and uneasy shifts between tenderness and dread. Badalamenti’s writing gives Jeffrey, Sandy and Frank’s world its unforgettable sonic identity, while Julee Cruise’s “Mysteries of Love” adds a hushed, otherworldly centrepiece. Widely admired for how it deepens the film’s atmosphere rather than simply accompanying it, the soundtrack became one of the key musical statements of Lynch’s career.
