About this album

Cosmic Music is a landmark spiritual jazz statement from John and Alice Coltrane, bringing free jazz energy into a more meditative, searching space. Issued in 1968, it gathered material associated with John Coltrane’s final creative period and helped define the direction Alice Coltrane would carry forward after his death. The music moves between devotional reflection and fierce improvisation, with pieces such as “Manifestation” and “The Sun” showing how fervour, restraint and transcendence could coexist. Its enduring reputation rests on the way it links the radical edge of late Coltrane with the wider emergence of spiritual jazz.
