Time Passages is Al Stewart’s slick, literate breakthrough and the album that brought his storytelling style to a wider audience. Released in 1978, it refined the blend of folk-rock, soft-rock and pop-rock that had already marked out his late-70s work, with the title track becoming his biggest hit and a defining FM-radio staple. The album was produced by Alan Parsons, whose polished studio approach gave Stewart’s songs extra clarity and sheen without dulling their narrative detail. Alongside ‘Time Passages’, songs such as ‘Song on the Radio’ helped turn the record into one of Stewart’s most commercially successful and enduring releases.
