AC/DC – Flick Of The Switch (Gold Vinyl, 50th Anniversary Edition)

AC/DC's Flick of the Switch arrived in 1983 as the band's ninth studio album and a deliberate change of direction after the huge run of Back in Black and For Those About to Rock. Made as a self-produced record, it pushed AC/DC back toward the raw, stripped-down attack of their earlier LPs rather than the polished studio sheen of the Mutt Lange era. That rougher approach is a big part of why songs like "Nervous Shakedown," "Guns for Hire," and "Bedlam in Belgium" have stayed fan favourites.

It also sits at an interesting point in the Brian Johnson years: this was his third album with the band, with Angus and Malcolm Young writing the material alongside him, and it was the last AC/DC studio album to feature drummer Phil Rudd before his long break from the group. If you like your AC/DC lean, hard and unfussy, Flick of the Switch has a directness that feels very intentional rather than nostalgic.

For the band's 50th anniversary, the album returned on a limited gold vinyl edition, remastered from the original master tapes by George Marino at Sterling Sound. That makes this pressing a neat way to revisit one of AC/DC's tougher, less polished records: an album that steps away from stadium gloss and gets back to the blunt force of the riff.
