About this album

ABBA’s The Album is a confident high point in the group’s late-1970s peak, sharpening their melodic pop instinct while pushing into more ambitious territory. Released in 1977, it followed the breakthrough of Arrival and arrived with a stronger sense of scale and drama, balancing polished singles such as The Name of the Game and Take a Chance on Me with the extended, side-long mini-suite known as The Girl With the Golden Hair. Built around Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus’s songwriting and the group’s tightly arranged harmonies, the record helped confirm ABBA as one of pop’s most skilful and durable studio acts.
