The Wishing Chair is an LP by 10,000 Maniacs from 1985 released on the Elektra label.
About this album
The Wishing Chair is an articulate early statement from 10,000 Maniacs, sharpening their folk-rock blend into something both melodic and pointed. Released in 1985, the album helped establish the band’s reputation for jangling guitars, thoughtful lyrics and Natalie Merchant’s distinctive vocal presence. It sits squarely in the American college-rock tradition, balancing political and personal concerns with a memorable, restless energy. Songs such as Can’t Ignore The Train and My Mother The War show a group already confident in its identity, making the album an important bridge between the band’s underground roots and broader recognition.
