Was (Not Was) Vinyl Records

Was (Not Was) is an American new wave band formed in Detroit, Michigan in 1980 by songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Don Was and David Was (formerly known as David Weiss). They are best known for their quirky, tongue-in-cheek style and their eclectic blend of rock, funk, pop, and jazz.

Their biggest hits include “Walk the Dinosaur”, “Spy in the House of Love”, and “Out Come the Freaks”, all of which charted on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Their most successful album was their 1988 release, What Up, Dog?, which featured the hits “Walk the Dinosaur” and “Spy in the House of Love”, as well as the lesser known but equally as good “Papa Was a Rolling Stone”.

One interesting fact about Was (Not Was) is that they were the first band to use the famous talk-box, which was famously used by Peter Frampton and is a device used to give a guitar a vocal-like quality. This was first used on the song “Out Come the Freaks”.
