Unknown Mortal Orchestra Vinyl Records

Unknown Mortal Orchestra is an American-New Zealand rock band formed in 2010 in Portland, Oregon. The band is composed of New Zealand singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ruban Nielson, his brother Kody Nielson and bassist Jake Portrait.

Their debut album, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, was released in 2011 and was acclaimed for its psychedelic influences, vintage sound, and lo-fi production. The album spawned the singles “Ffunny Ffrends” and “How Can U Luv Me”. The band’s sophomore effort, II, was released in 2013 and featured the singles “Swim and Sleep (Like a Shark)” and “So Good At Being In Trouble”. The band’s third album, Multi-Love, was released in 2015 and marked a shift in the band’s sound, incorporating funk and disco influences. The album was highlighted by the single “Can’t Keep Checking My Phone”.

In 2018, Unknown Mortal Orchestra released their fourth album, Sex & Food, which was met with critical acclaim. The album featured the singles “American Guilt” and “Not in Love We’re Just High”.

An interesting fact about Unknown Mortal Orchestra is that the band’s name was inspired by a dream Ruban Nielson had in which he was visited by an unknown mortal orchestra.
