The Woodentops is an English indie rock band formed in 1983. The group was founded by singer/songwriter Rolo McGinty, who had previously been in the band The Loft. The Woodentops' lineup has changed over the years, but the most successful incarnation of the group was the original lineup, which included McGinty, Simon Mawby (guitar), Alice Thompson (keyboards), Frank de Freitas (bass), and Benny Staples (drums).

The Woodentops' first release was the single "Well Well Well" in 1984. The single was a success, and the group followed it up with their debut album, Giant, in 1985. The album spawned several singles, including the top 10 hit "Plenty" and the top 20 hit "Move Me".

The group's second album, Wooden Foot Cops on the Highway, was released in 1986 and featured the top 10 hit "Why Why Why". The album was well received, and the group was nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Group.

The Woodentops released their third album, Wooden Foot Cops and the Dance of Life, in 1988. The album featured the top 20 single "Good Thing", as well as the single "Get It On". The album was a commercial success, and the group toured extensively to promote it.

The Woodentops released their fourth album, Hypnotized, in 1992. The album featured the singles "I Can See Everything" and "We Were Made for Each Other".

The Woodentops' most recent release is the single "Just Like We Do" in 2010.

An interesting fact about The Woodentops is that their music was used in the opening scene of the classic movie The Breakfast Club.
