The Southern Jazz Group

The Southern Jazz Group is a contemporary jazz band formed in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1988. The group is led by saxophonist and vocalist Dave Watson and consists of bassist Bob French, drummer Fredy Omar, percussionist Bill Summers and guitarist Russell Batiste.

Their most successful album is 1990's Street Jazz, which features the singles "Love Will Find a Way," "You're the One," and "I'm Gonna Love You." The album was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album.

The band's follow-up album, 1993's Southern Jazz, was equally successful, featuring the hit singles "Take Me Higher," "Somethin' New," and "Groove with Me."

In addition to their two studio albums, the Southern Jazz Group has also released a number of live albums, including 2003's Live at the Jazz Cafe, 2004's Live at the Tipitina's, and 2010's Live at the House of Blues.

An interesting fact about the Southern Jazz Group is that they were the first jazz group to perform at the famous New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in 1989.
