The Rubettes

The Rubettes are an English pop group that was formed in 1973. The original lineup consisted of Alan Williams, John Richardson, Mick Clarke, Tony Thorpe, and Pete Arneson. They are best known for their hit singles “Sugar Baby Love”, “Tonight”, “Juke Box Jive” and “I Can Do It”.

The Rubettes released their debut album Wear It's 'At in 1974. It included their hit singles “Sugar Baby Love” and “Tonight”. The album peaked at number 2 on the UK Albums Chart.

Their 1975 album We Can Do It was their most successful album. It peaked at number 4 on the UK Albums Chart and included their hit singles “Juke Box Jive” and “I Can Do It”.

The Rubettes' 1976 album Sign Of The Times was a commercial disappointment. However, their 1977 album Rubettes was successful and included their hit single “Foe-Dee-Oh-Dee”.

The Rubettes disbanded in 1979 and reunited in 1989. They have since released several albums, including their most recent album The Singles Collection (2020).

An interesting fact about The Rubettes is that they were one of the first bands to be signed to the legendary British record label, Chiswick Records.
