The Lovin' Spoonful was an American rock band, active from 1965 to 1968, that was formed in New York City. It was led by singer/songwriter John Sebastian and featured guitarist Zal Yanovsky, bassist Steve Boone, and drummer Joe Butler. The band's hits included the classic rock staples "Do You Believe in Magic", "Summer in the City", "Daydream", and "Nashville Cats".

The Lovin' Spoonful's debut album, Do You Believe in Magic, was released in 1965 and was their most successful album. It featured the hit single "Do You Believe in Magic", which reached number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album also included the popular songs "You Didn't Have to Be So Nice", "Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind?", and "Younger Girl".

The Lovin' Spoonful's follow-up album, Daydream, was released in 1966 and was also successful, reaching number 8 on the Billboard 200 chart. The title track, "Daydream", was the band's highest charting single, reaching number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Other notable tracks on the album include "Didn't Want to Have to Do It", "You Didn't Have to Be So Nice", and "Butchie's Tune".

The Lovin' Spoonful's final album, Hums of the Lovin' Spoonful, was released in 1968. The album featured the singles "Six O'Clock", "Darlin' Be Home Soon", and "Me About You".

An interesting fact about the Lovin' Spoonful is that they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000.
