The London Philharmonic Orchestra Vinyl Records

The London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) is one of the leading orchestras in the world, having been formed in 1932. The LPO was formed by Sir Thomas Beecham, who sought to create an orchestra that could rival the London Symphony Orchestra in quality. Since its inception, the LPO has gone on to become one of the most respected orchestras in the world, performing at venues like the Royal Festival Hall, the Royal Albert Hall and the Barbican Centre.

The LPO has released numerous standout albums throughout its history, including a number of recordings conducted by Beecham. One of the most notable of these is the album of Symphonies Nos. 6 and 7 by Ludwig van Beethoven, which is considered to be one of the finest recordings of the composer’s works. The LPO has also released a number of acclaimed recordings of contemporary works, including John Adams’s Harmonielehre, Thomas Adès’s Asyla and John Tavener’s Lament of the Mother of God.

The LPO has also released a number of acclaimed recordings of popular songs, including the soundtrack to the film ‘Brief Encounter’ and the theme tune to the television series ‘Fawlty Towers’. The orchestra has also released a number of acclaimed recordings of film scores, including John Williams’s ‘Star Wars’, Howard Shore’s ‘Lord of the Rings’ and Michael Nyman’s ‘The Piano’.

An interesting fact about the LPO is that it is the only orchestra to have performed at all three London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games ceremonies.
