The Flying Pickets
The Flying Pickets are an a cappella vocal group, founded in 1983 by former members of the original Royal Academy of Music A Cappella Choir. The group was founded by former choir director and arranger, Brian Hibbard, who had previously worked with the likes of Queen and The Who.
The Flying Pickets are most well-known for their 1983 single, “Only You”, which topped the UK Singles Chart for five weeks and made them the first a cappella group to have a UK number one.
Their other albums and singles include 1984’s “Lost Boys”, 1985’s “We’re Just Waiting”, 1987’s “When You’re Young and In Love”, and 1994’s “Saturday Night at the Movies”.
The Flying Pickets also performed with an orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 1987, a performance which was recorded and released on CD and video.
An interesting fact about The Flying Pickets is that they are the only a cappella group to have a UK number one single.
