The Beautiful South was an English alternative rock band formed in 1988 in Hull, Yorkshire. The band consisted of singers Paul Heaton and Dave Hemingway, plus other musicians. Their most successful period was between 1988 and 1998, during which time they released five studio albums and sold more than 15 million records worldwide.

The Beautiful South's debut album, Welcome to the Beautiful South, was released in 1989. The album featured their biggest hit single, "A Little Time," which reached number two in the UK Singles Chart. Other standout singles from the album included "Song for Whoever," "You Keep It All In," and "Don't Marry Her." The album was certified Platinum by the British Phonographic Industry and has sold over one million copies in the UK.
