The Beat Vinyl Records

The Beat (known in the US as The English Beat) is a ska and new wave band formed in Birmingham, England in 1978. The band's core members are Dave Wakeling (vocals, guitar), Ranking Roger (vocals), Everett Morton (drums), and Andy Cox (guitar).

The Beat's first album, I Just Can't Stop It, was released in 1980 and contained several of the band's best-known songs, including "Mirror In The Bathroom", "Hands Off...She's Mine", and "Can't Get Used To Losing You". The album peaked at number 2 in the UK charts and is considered a classic of the ska revival.

The band's second album, Wha'ppen?, was released in 1981 and contained the hit single "Save It For Later". The album was a critical success and reached number 6 in the UK album chart.

The Beat's third album, Special Beat Service, was released in 1982. The album was less successful than their previous releases, and the band broke up shortly afterwards.

In the years since the band's split, many of their songs have become staples of the ska revival and new wave movements. Standout tracks include "Mirror In The Bathroom", "Save It For Later", and "Hands Off...She's Mine".

An interesting fact about The Beat is that Ranking Roger and Dave Wakeling went on to form General Public, a successful band in their own right. General Public had a number of hit singles, including "Tenderness" and "I'll Take You There".
