Teddy Pendergrass was an American R&B singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He rose to fame in the 1970s as lead singer of the band Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes and went on to have a successful solo career. Pendergrass released a total of nine studio albums during his career, with his first five albums achieving gold status or higher. His most successful albums include Life Is a Song Worth Singing (1978), TP (1980), and Love Language (1984). Pendergrass had a number of popular songs throughout his career, including "If You Don't Know Me by Now" (1972), "The More I Get, the More I Want" (1977), "Close the Door" (1978), and "Love T.K.O" (1980). He was also the first African-American male artist to record five consecutive platinum albums.
