Soul Asylum is an American alternative rock band that formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1983. The original members included Dave Pirner (vocals and guitar), Dan Murphy (guitar and backing vocals), Karl Mueller (bass), and Pat Morley (drums).

Their breakout album was 1992’s Grave Dancers Union, which featured the Grammy Award-winning single “Runaway Train”. Other standout albums include 1994’s Let Your Dim Light Shine and 1996’s Candy from a Stranger.

Other popular Soul Asylum songs include “Misery”, “Black Gold”, “Somebody to Shove”, and “Without a Trace”.

An interesting fact about Soul Asylum is that their song “Runaway Train” was used in a campaign to help find missing children. The campaign was launched in collaboration with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and featured images of missing children on TV screens during the music video.
