Richard Wagner (1813-1883) was a German composer, theatre director, polemicist, and conductor who is primarily known for his operas and music dramas. His works are considered to be some of the most influential in music history. Wagner's music is characterised by its chromaticism and its use of leitmotifs - short, recurring musical phrases that represent characters, objects, or ideas.

Wagner's most well-known works include the Ring Cycle, Tristan und Isolde, The Flying Dutchman, Tannhäuser, and Parsifal. He also wrote a number of symphonies, choral works, and other pieces.

Some of Wagner's standout albums include the Wagner: Complete Operas box set, which includes all of his major works; the Wagner: Overtures and Preludes compilation, which includes some of his most popular orchestral works; and the Wagner: Great Orchestral Works album, which features some of his most iconic pieces.

Some of Wagner's most well-known songs include Ride of the Valkyries, from the opera Die Walküre; the Pilgrims' Chorus from Tannhäuser; and the famous Wedding March from Lohengrin.

An interesting fact about Wagner is that he is credited with inventing the Bayreuth Festival, an annual opera festival held in the Bavarian town of Bayreuth. The festival has been held every year since 1876, and is dedicated exclusively to Wagner's works.
