Raymond Leppard Vinyl Records

Raymond Leppard (1924-2020) was an English conductor, harpsichordist, and composer. He was the first English conductor to perform and record works by J.S. Bach in their original versions. He was a frequent guest conductor with the English Chamber Orchestra, and in 1970 he was appointed its permanent conductor. He was also music director of the Glyndebourne Touring Opera from 1974 to 1984.

Leppard was well known for his interpretations of the works of Handel, Vivaldi, and other Baroque composers. He was also known for his interpretations of works by Gershwin and Stravinsky. Among his most acclaimed recordings are Handel's "Water Music" (1965), Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" (1969), and Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" (1972).

One of Leppard's standout albums is his Grammy-winning recording of Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring" (1987). Other notable recordings include his interpretations of works by Debussy and Ravel, as well as a set of Mozart Symphonies with the English Chamber Orchestra.

An interesting fact about Raymond Leppard is that he was a composer in his own right, writing several ballets, operas, and other works. His opera "Cyrano de Bergerac" was premiered in 1965 and was later adapted into a successful musical.
