Platinum Blonde is a Canadian new wave and synth-pop band formed in Toronto in 1982. The band is composed of Mark Holmes (vocals, bass guitar), Sergio Galli (guitar, vocals), and Chris Steffler (drums).

The band’s first album, Standing in the Dark, was released in 1983 and was a major success in Canada. It featured the band’s two biggest hits, “Somebody Somewhere” and “Crying Over You”. The album went on to be certified platinum in Canada.

Their follow-up album, Alien Shores, was released in 1985 and was an even bigger success, spawning the hits “Not in Love”, “Hungry Eyes” and “Someday”. The album was also certified platinum in Canada.

The band’s third album, Contact, was released in 1987 and featured the hits “Sad Sad Rain” and “Situation Critical”. The band’s fourth album, Attitude, was released in 1990 and featured the hit “It Doesn’t Really Matter”.

The band’s most successful single, “Crying Over You”, was released in 1983 and reached number one on the Canadian Singles Chart. The song also charted in the United States, reaching number 67 on the Billboard Hot 100.

An interesting fact about Platinum Blonde is that they are one of the first Canadian bands to have a music video played on MTV. The video was for their single “Not in Love” and was released in 1985.
