Pee Wee Russell (1906-1969) was an American jazz clarinetist and composer, who rose to prominence in the 1940s and 1950s. He was known for his unique and creative approach to playing, often described as “melodic” and “lyrical”.

Pee Wee Russell released several albums throughout his career, including his debut, Pee Wee Russell and His All Stars (1955), as well as Pee Wee Russell in Jazz (1957) and The Jazz Workshop (1960). His most well-known songs include “Copenhagen”, “Dardanella”, and “Stardust”.

An interesting fact about Pee Wee Russell is that he was an avid golfer and often played with fellow jazz musicians, such as Dizzy Gillespie and Ben Webster. He also became the first jazz musician to appear on the cover of Down Beat Magazine in 1958.
