Paul Motian (1931-2011) was an American jazz drummer, composer, and bandleader. He is most well-known for his work with Bill Evans and the Keith Jarrett Trio in the 1970s. He also worked with a wide variety of jazz musicians, including Thelonious Monk, Charlie Haden, and Joe Lovano.

Motian's most notable albums include 1972's "Conception Vessel", 1975's "Paul Motian and the Electric Bebop Band", and 1981's "It Should've Happened A Long Time Ago". His most popular songs include "Jumble, Jumble" and "Dance".

An interesting fact about Paul Motian is that he was an avid supporter of jazz education and provided financial support for jazz programs at universities such as Harvard and New England Conservatory.
