Patrice Rushen is an American composer, arranger, producer, and keyboardist who is best known for her jazz-influenced R&B, funk and soul music. She started playing the piano at the age of five and by the age of 14 she had already started composing and arranging. She began her career in the mid-1970s, when she signed with Prestige Records.

Her most popular and successful album is 1982’s Straight From The Heart, which yielded the singles “Forget Me Nots”, “Haven’t You Heard”, and “Number One”. She also had a successful collaboration with Herbie Hancock in 1982 with the track “What’s Going On”. Other notable albums include Before The Dawn (1978) and Now (1984).

In addition to her musical accomplishments, Patrice Rushen has also composed music for film and television, including the theme song for the TV show Punky Brewster. She also served as the musical director for The Chris Rock Show, and was the first female music director for the Grammy Awards.

An interesting fact about Patrice Rushen is that she was one of the first female producers to achieve success in the music industry. She is also one of the few women who have been inducted into the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
