Paco De Lucía was a Spanish virtuoso flamenco guitarist, composer, and producer. He was born Francisco Sanchez Gomez on December 21, 1947, in Algeciras, Spain. De Lucía's career began in the late 1950s and early 1960s, when he began playing in flamenco clubs around Spain. He quickly gained attention and became a sought-after session musician, performing on many notable recordings by artists such as Camarón de la Isla and Carlos Montoya.

De Lucía's first album, La Fabulosa Guitarra de Paco de Lucía, was released in 1967 and is considered a milestone of flamenco guitar music. He went on to release a number of successful albums over the years, including Fuente y Caudal (1970), Almoraima (1976), Zyryab (1988), and Entre Dos Aguas (2003). He also collaborated with artists such as Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin, and Chick Corea on the live album Friday Night in San Francisco (1981).

De Lucía was known for incorporating elements of jazz, classical, and Latin music into his flamenco compositions. He was also a pioneer in the use of the clavichord, a keyboard instrument similar to the piano. He won numerous awards throughout his career, including a Grammy Award for Best Latin Recording for his album Cositas Buenas (1997).

An interesting fact about Paco De Lucía is that he is credited as the main innovator of the modern flamenco style, which has been widely influential on the genre. He has been called “the master of modern flamenco” and his influence can still be heard in today’s flamenco music.
