Oasis is an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1991. The original members were Liam Gallagher (vocals and tambourine), Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs (guitar), Paul “Guigsy” McGuigan (bass guitar), and Tony McCarroll (drums). The group rose to fame during the Britpop era of the mid-1990s, and were one of the most successful acts of the era. The band's breakthrough album was Definitely Maybe (1994), which went on to become the fastest selling debut album in UK chart history. The album spawned several popular singles, including "Live Forever" and "Cigarettes & Alcohol". The follow-up album (What's the Story) Morning Glory? (1995) was even more successful, debuting at No. 1 in the UK and selling over 22 million copies worldwide. The album produced several hit singles, including "Wonderwall" and "Don't Look Back in Anger". Oasis went on to release four more studio albums: Be Here Now (1997), Standing on the Shoulder of Giants (2000), Heathen Chemistry (2002), and Don't Believe the Truth (2005). The band split in 2009, with Liam Gallagher and Noel Gallagher going on to pursue solo careers. An interesting fact about Oasis is that their debut album, Definitely Maybe, was recorded in just 17 days.
