Nirvana is an American rock band formed in Aberdeen, Washington, in 1987 by singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic. The band's music was part of the grunge movement of the early 1990s, and their most successful album, Nevermind (1991), helped bring alternative rock into the mainstream.

Nirvana's standout albums include Nevermind, In Utero (1993), and MTV Unplugged in New York (1994). Notable songs from these albums include "Smells Like Teen Spirit," "Come as You Are," "Heart-Shaped Box," and "The Man Who Sold the World."

An interesting fact about Nirvana is that their song "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was not initially popular when it was released in 1991. It wasn't until the music video was released and aired on MTV that the song gained mainstream success.
