Midnight Oil Vinyl Records

Midnight Oil is an Australian rock band formed in Sydney in 1976. The original lineup consisted of Peter Garrett (vocals), Rob Hirst (drums), Jim Moginie (guitar, keyboards), Martin Rotsey (guitar) and Andrew James (bass). They released their debut album, Midnight Oil, in 1978.

The band's breakthrough album, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, was released in 1982 and featured the hit singles "Power and the Passion" and "US Forces". The album was the first to feature the band's trademark political activism, which they continued to explore on subsequent albums. Their 1987 album Diesel and Dust was a critical and commercial success, spawning the hit singles "Beds Are Burning" and "The Dead Heart". The album also earned them their first Grammy nomination.

Other standout albums from Midnight Oil include Blue Sky Mining (1990), Earth and Sun and Moon (1993), and Redneck Wonderland (1998). Their final album, Capricornia, was released in 2002.

In addition to their albums, Midnight Oil had a number of hit singles, including "Dreamworld" (1986), "Forgotten Years" (1990), and "Breathe" (1996).

An interesting fact about Midnight Oil is that their song "Beds Are Burning" was used in a commercial for Volkswagen in the U.S. in 2019, more than 30 years after it was first released.
