Michael Kamen was an American composer, conductor, and arranger who was best known for his film scores, particularly for his collaborations with director Terry Gilliam. He wrote scores for films such as X-Men, Lethal Weapon, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Brazil, and The Iron Giant. He also worked on musicals such as Pippin and co-wrote the musical Mr. Holland's Opus with its Academy Award-nominated score.

Kamen's standout albums include his 1993 album Songs from the Labyrinth, which featured Sting, David Bowie, and Kate Bush, and his 2000 album Concerto for Saxophone and Orchestra, which was recorded with saxophonist David Sanborn. Other notable albums include the soundtrack to the movie Brazil (1985), which was nominated for a Grammy, and Live at Montreux (1998), a live album recorded at the Montreux Jazz Festival with guitarists Joe Satriani and Steve Vai.

Kamen's most popular songs include "Lily Was Here" (1989), the theme song for the movie The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, and "For the Love of a Princess" (1995), the theme song from Braveheart.

An interesting fact about Michael Kamen is that he wrote a piece for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, which was performed by both a symphony orchestra and a marching band. This piece, titled "Olympic Fanfare and Theme", was performed during the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympics.
