Memphis Slim (born John Len Chatman) was an American blues pianist, singer, and songwriter. He was a major figure in the post-war blues movement and one of the most successful and prolific blues artists of all time.

Memphis Slim's most acclaimed albums include Blues for Gamblers (1956), Piano Blues (1958), and The Come Back (1960). Standout songs include "Every Day I Have the Blues" (1952), "Mother Earth" (1953), and "Steady Rollin' Man" (1956).

An interesting fact about Memphis Slim is that he was one of the first blues musicians to tour Europe in 1962. He was also the first African-American musician to tour the Soviet Union.
