Maurice Jarre (1924–2009) was a French composer, most famous for his work in the film scoring industry. He is best known for his Academy Award-winning score for the classic 1962 film Lawrence of Arabia, which earned him his first Oscar. He would go on to win two more Oscars, for A Passage to India in 1985 and for Doctor Zhivago in 1966.

Jarre composed the soundtracks to over 150 films, including his other acclaimed works such as The Message (1976), Ghost (1990), Witness (1985), The Year of Living Dangerously (1982), and The Man Who Would Be King (1975). His most famous soundtrack album was the score for Lawrence of Arabia, which was a two-disc set released in 1962. Other notable soundtrack albums include The Longest Day (1962), The Train (1964), and Topaz (1969).

Jarre's most popular songs include "Lara's Theme" from Doctor Zhivago (1965), "Chariots of Fire" from Chariots of Fire (1981), and "Passage to India" from A Passage to India (1985).

An interesting fact about Maurice Jarre is that he was the father of Jean-Michel Jarre, who is also a successful French composer. Maurice Jarre mentored Jean-Michel in the art of film scoring and composition.
