Mary J. Blige is a multi-platinum selling R&B singer-songwriter, producer and actress. She has been dubbed the “Queen of Hip Hop Soul” due to her incorporation of hip-hop elements into her music. Born in the Bronx, Blige began her career in the early 1990s as a background vocalist for Uptown Records. Her debut album, What’s the 411? (1992) spawned the hit single “Real Love” and was certified triple platinum by the RIAA. Blige has released a total of 13 studio albums and over 50 singles, including such hits as “Family Affair”, “Be Without You” and “Just Fine”.

Some of Blige's most successful albums include My Life (1994), Mary (1999), No More Drama (2001), The Breakthrough (2005) and Strength of a Woman (2017). My Life was certified four times platinum and produced the hits “You Bring Me Joy” and “I’m Goin’ Down”. Mary was certified four times platinum and featured the hits “All That I Can Say” and “Deep Inside”. No More Drama was certified double platinum and featured the hits “Family Affair” and “Rainy Dayz”. The Breakthrough was certified three times platinum and featured the hits “Be Without You” and “Enough Cryin”. Strength of a Woman was certified platinum and featured the hits “Thick of It” and “U + Me (Love Lesson)”.

An interesting fact about Mary J. Blige is that she has won a total of nine Grammy Awards, including Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for “No More Drama” (2002) and Best R&B Album for The Breakthrough (2006). She was also the first artist to receive a Best New Artist nomination and a Best Female R&B Vocal Performance nomination in the same year.
