Martyn Wyndham-Read is an English folk singer, songwriter and broadcaster, best known for his work in the folk revival of the 1960s and 1970s. He began his career as a professional folk singer in the early 1960s, and has since released over 30 albums and compilations of traditional and original material.

Some of his most notable albums include The Great Australian Legend (1969), The Transports (1977), The Ballad of Australia (1985) and A Journey Through Time (1998). His songs are often inspired by traditional folk themes, with many of his compositions drawing on his Australian heritage.

Some of his most popular songs include “The Ballad of the Transports”, “The Wild Colonial Boy”, “The Band Played Waltzing Matilda”, “The Leaving of Liverpool” and “Blackwaterside”.

An interesting fact about Martyn Wyndham-Read is that he was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 2006 for his services to music and culture.
