Martin Carthy is an English folk singer and guitarist who has been active in the folk music scene since the early 1960s. He is considered one of the most influential figures in the English folk revival, and has been credited with introducing a new generation to traditional music. He is also known for his collaborations with fellow folk musician Dave Swarbrick.

Carthy's most well-known and acclaimed albums include: Byker Hill (1965), Martin Carthy (1966), Shearwater (1969), Second Album (1970), Right of Passage (1981), Landfall (1982), Out of the Cut (1985) and Signs of Life (1987).

An interesting fact about Martin Carthy is that he is a recipient of an MBE, awarded to him in 1998 for services to folk music. He is also the father of English singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Eliza Carthy.
