Luciano Pavarotti was an Italian operatic tenor who gained worldwide fame for his powerful voice, passionate performances, and larger-than-life personality. Born in Modena, Italy in 1935, Pavarotti began singing as a child, studying music and eventually earning a place at the prestigious Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome.

Pavarotti's career began to take off in the late 1960s, with his performance of La Bohème in 1965 at the Royal Opera House in London, and he went on to perform for sold-out audiences throughout Europe and the United States. His standout albums include the best-selling compilation The Essential Pavarotti (1999), the Grammy Award-winning Pavarotti & Friends (1998), and the live recording of his historic Three Tenors concert in Rome in 1990. His most beloved songs include Puccini's “Nessun Dorma”, Verdi's “La donna è mobile”, and his duet with Celine Dion, “I Hate You Then I Love You”.

An interesting fact about Pavarotti is that he was an enthusiastic golfer and played with golfers such as Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus. He was also a vocal advocate of UNICEF, and was appointed a Goodwill Ambassador in 2002.
