Kenny Burrell is an American jazz guitarist and composer known for his influential collaborations with some of the greatest names in jazz. Born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1931, he has been an active and highly respected musician for over 60 years.

Burrell is best known for his work with artists like Dizzy Gillespie, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Bill Evans, and Jimmy Smith. He is also renowned for his many recordings as a leader, most notably Midnight Blue (1963), Blue Lights (1958), and God Bless the Child (1974).

Burrell is also well-known for his work as a composer, having written hundreds of songs, including "Chitlins Con Carne," "Bluesin' Around," "Gee Baby, Ain't I Good to You," and "Chitlin's and Grits."

An interesting fact about Kenny Burrell is that he was the first African-American musician to be awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in music composition in 1965.
