Copeland released his debut album, "Johnny Copeland and the Houserockers", in 1983. This album featured the songs "Take It Easy Baby", "It's Your Move", and "Come On Baby". His 1987 album, "Bringin' It All Back Home", included the hit singles "Texas Twister" and "Callin' All Cows". His 1989 album, "Copeland Special", featured the song "Gonna Be Some Walkin' Done", which became a popular blues standard.

Copeland's most successful album was the 1992 release, "Make My Home Where I Hang My Hat". It included the hit single "She's Crazy 'Bout Her Lovin'" and won him a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Recording.

In addition to his own albums, Copeland also recorded with other blues artists, including Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robert Cray, and Koko Taylor. He also wrote songs for other artists, including Keb' Mo' and Bonnie Raitt.

An interesting fact about Johnny Copeland is that he was the first artist to be signed to Alligator Records, the legendary Chicago blues label.
