Jimmy Witherspoon was an American jazz and blues singer, best known for his 1950s and 1960s recordings. Born in 1920 in Gurdon, Arkansas, he began singing in gospel groups in the 1930s. He first made a name for himself in the 1940s, when he moved to Los Angeles and began to work with jazz luminaries like Benny Carter, Nat King Cole, and Lester Young. He became a blues star in the 1950s and 1960s, when he released several popular singles and albums, including "Ain't Nobody's Business" and "Trouble in Mind".

Witherspoon's standout albums include Goin' to Kansas City Blues (1956), Blue Spoon (1958), Spoon So Easy (1960), and Spoonful (1963). Some of his most popular songs are "Ain't Nobody's Business", "Trouble in Mind", "I Got News for You", and "No Rollin' Blues".

An interesting fact about Jimmy Witherspoon is that he was the first blues artist to win a Grammy Award, for his 1962 album Spoonful.
