J Dilla, born James Dewitt Yancey, was an influential American hip hop producer and rapper from Detroit, Michigan. He is widely considered one of the most influential hip hop producers of all time, with his sound being influential on countless hip hop producers and rappers.

J Dilla’s career began in the early 1990s with the Detroit-based hip hop group Slum Village. His debut album, Fantastic, Vol. 1, was released in 1996 and included some of his earliest works. He went on to produce for other prominent Detroit-based hip hop acts such as Common, The Pharcyde, De La Soul, and The Roots.

J Dilla’s most acclaimed solo album, Donuts, was released in 2006 and is considered to be a seminal work in hip hop. The album features an eclectic mix of samples and instrumentals that highlight his unique production style. Other standout albums include The Shining (2006) and Ruff Draft (2003).

J Dilla’s best-known songs include “Workinonit”, “The Shining Pt. 1 (Diamonds)”, and “So Far To Go” (featuring Common and D’Angelo).
