Hubert Laws is a jazz flutist, saxophonist and clarinetist who has been active in the music industry since the 1960s. Born in Houston, Texas in 1939, Laws began playing the flute at the age of 10 and went on to study at the Houston School of Music and the Houston Conservatory of Music.

Laws is known for his work in both classical and jazz music, having played with a variety of artists over the years including Dave Brubeck, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Carlos Santana, and Willie Nelson. He has also performed with many notable jazz groups such as the Stan Getz Quartet, the Gil Evans Orchestra, and the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra.

Laws has released over 30 albums throughout his career, including the Grammy Award-winning The Rite of Spring (1973) and Land of Passion (1980). Some of his most popular songs include "Family Reunion", "Love is Everywhere", and "When You Wish Upon a Star".

An interesting fact about Hubert Laws is that he was the first African American to be featured on the cover of DownBeat magazine in 1975.
