Horace Silver was an American jazz pianist and composer who was active from the 1950s to the 2010s. His career spanned six decades and he was instrumental in the development of hard bop and soul jazz. He was known for his distinctive style of jazz piano and for his compositions, which were often based on funky blues riffs and featured complex harmonic structures.

Silver's most notable albums include Blowin' the Blues Away (1959), Song for My Father (1964), and The Cape Verdean Blues (1965). His songs "Senor Blues" and "Song for My Father" have become jazz standards and are widely covered by other artists.
