Gerhard Stolze (1926-1990) was a German tenor who is remembered as one of the great heldentenors of the 20th century. He is best known for his interpretations of the operas of Richard Wagner, but he was also known for his performances of Strauss and Mozart operas. His recordings of Wagner's works are particularly renowned, and he was a regular performer in the Bayreuth Festival.
Stolze's most notable recordings include Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Tristan und Isolde, Parsifal, and Die Walküre. He is also known for his recordings of Der Rosenkavalier, Die Fledermaus, Don Giovanni, and Fidelio. His standout albums include Gerhard Stolze - The Complete Recital Recordings, and his signature songs include "Mein Sehnen, mein Wähnen" from Der Rosenkavalier, and "Höchstes Vertrau'n" from Tristan und Isolde.
An interesting fact about Gerhard Stolze is that he was a member of the Hitler Youth organization during World War II, but he was never a member of the Nazi party.
